The story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.
It’s been a while since I’ve allowed myself to be put off by a movie’s title, but that was the case with Kingsman: The Secret Service, the new film from Matthew Vaughn. Now, I like Vaughn’s work. Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class were both loads of fun, and even though it’s now quite a ways in the past, Layer Cake was also a really solid movie. But Kingsman: The Secret Service is just a boring title, and when coupled with Colin Firth in the lead role, I was totally expecting something stuffy and muted along the lines of maybe Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. But now that I’ve watched the trailer, I realize that this movie is anything but! It’s like Wanted meets James Bond, and it actually looks like a pretty fun time. But that title is just so dull! No one is going to see this movie because of its title, unless maybe they’re already fans of the comic books the film is based on. Anyway, don’t be dissuaded, this looks good!
Kingsman: The Secret Service comes out February 13, 2015.
