CHAPPiE

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

I feel like such a sucker watching this trailer. It’s not that I think this won’t be a good movie – I can tell this will be a fun watch – it’s that Neill Blomkamp is pushing all of my buttons. In a good way. I love me some robots, and the robot at the centre of this is alraedy awesome. The score is uplifting in the most epic way. It’s an obvious update of my favourite childhood movie Short Circuit. It all looks great. And hey look, Sharlto Copley is in the cast. And there’s Die Antwoord. Weird. Anyway, the conclusion I’m reaching, in an erratic way thanks to a lack of caffeine, is that I think Chappie will be great, and I’m going to see it. Yup.

Chappie comes out March 6, 2015.
