Earth has been conquered by robots from a distant galaxy; survivors are confined to their houses and must wear electronic implants, risking incineration by robot sentries if they venture outside. In robot-occupied Britain, cities are devastated and a gang of teenagers live in a seaside town constantly under robot threat, and one young man seems to have the power to finally fight back.
I hadn’t heard of this movie until today, but I’m already disappointed. Robot Overlords is the kind of flick I should be excited about. It’s full of giant robots, it has a cheesy, on-the-nose title that implies a tongue-in-cheek approach, and it’s directed by Jon Wright, whose previous movie Grabbers was a Shaun of the Dead-esque alien movie with some really clever moments. But damn, this trailer just looks like a cut-rate SyFy movie, and there doesn’t appear to be a joke in the entire thing. Furthermore, the last time anybody was talking about this before the trailer dropped was in February 2013. Doesn’t bode well.
