Now that the nominations for the 87th Academy Awards have been announced, it’s time for an annual tradition here at The Back Row: “Before They Were Stars” clips for this year’s nominees! Surprise, surprise, Meryl Streep received her 19th Oscar nomination this year for her performance in Into the Woods. You know, Academy, I’m sure it’s a perfectly fine performance, but you don’t HAVE to nominate Meryl Streep every single year! I don’t think she’d be too devastated if she got to stay home one year. Anyway, here’s some obscure footage of a rare non-Oscar nominated role from Meryl Streep, which happens to the very first credit in her filmography. Everyone Rides the Carousel is a trippy 1975 animated film which is based on psychoanalyst Erik Erikson’s eight stages of psychosocial development. Streep just happens to be the voice of the woman showcased in Stage 6, “Love: Intimacy vs. Isolation”.
