I’ve only seen two films by Rodney Ascher: The S From Hell and Room 237. I loved The S From Hell, this weird document about a very specific (but apparently shared) irrational phobia of a studio logo. I did not love Room 237, because it just came off as a bunch of quacks reading stuff into Kubrick’s work that was obviously, obviously not intentional. Now we have a trailer for Ascher’s new documentary about sleep paralysis, titled The Nightmare, and the subject matter couldn’t be better. A horror documentary about something that torments thousands of people on a near nightly basis? Sign me up. Now if Ascher can just give more time to expert voices who know what they’re talking about, this could be really good.
The Nightmare comes out in limited release and on VOD on June 5, 2015.
