This past weekend marked the 40th anniversary of the release of Jaws, so I thought it would be fun to put the spotlight on an earlier Richard Dreyfuss foray into the water six years beforehand. 1969 saw the release of a screwball comedy called Hello Down There, where Tony Randall played a scientist who convinces his family to live in an underwater home for 30 days. Since Randall’s kids just happen to be in a pop rock band in which Richard Dreyfuss is the lead singer, the entire band winds up joining the family to live under the sea and perform tunes. As odd as the idea of Richard Dreyfuss singing might be, it’s pretty obvious that his voice was dubbed here.
