When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.
The Christmas-themed horror movie is a rare breed of film, and I don’t think anybody has quite gotten it right yet. Because Christmas is so inherently chintzy, you really have to nail the perfect tone, somewhere between yuletide cheer and tongue-in-cheek campfest. Which brings us to Krampus. When I first heard the premise of this movie, I thought it was going to turn out like Rare Exports – a film that had promise, but failed in the execution. Watching this trailer, though, I think Krampus is going to be a ridiculous good time. With Adam Scott in the lead role, you just know that there’s fun to be had. I don’t think this will be a “good” movie, but damn, I’m kind of looking forward to it.
Krampus comes out December 4, 2015.
