A young boy named Mowgli, a man-cub raised in the jungle by a family of wolves, embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery when he’s forced to abandon the only home he’s ever known.
Continuing its tradition of remaking its own old, superior animated films into new, grittier, live-action movies, we now have a trailer for Disney’s upcoming live-action Jungle Book adaptation. No, not the one with Sam Neill and Cary Elwes, but another attempt at a live-action Jungle Book. That’s right, from the studio that brought you The Jungle Book and The Jungle Book, comes…The Jungle Book. Now, this trailer looks fine, I suppose, but I just can’t get enthusiastic about doing a bunch of CGI talking animals in an otherwise live-action film. As good as those special effects are, I can still easily tell that the animals are all computer generated. The human brain is still too good at distinguishing what’s real and what’s a computer graphics for this stuff to stand the test of time. Even Avatar is starting to show its age. Doesn’t anybody remember the CG in the 90’s adaptation of this same story? It looks horrible by today’s standards. Meanwhile, the animated version of The Jungle Book still looks great today. All of this to say, I really wish they’d just given this one to Pixar instead.
The Jungle Book comes out April 15, 2016.
