This audio clip is one of the rarest and earliest existing David Bowie interviews. In 1966, the musician had split off from his band, Davie Jones and the King Bees, and officially changed his stage name to “David Bowie”. Success as a solo artist would elude Bowie for a couple more years, but for a few months, he got to perform a weekly Sunday afternoon gig at London’s Marquee Club called “The Bowie Showboat”. In this clip, he delivers an interview at the Marquee Club and performs a few rare tunes.
