How the hell did this happen, guys? Now You See Me was not a critical darling. It did pretty well, but I wouldn’t say it was amazing or remarkable in any way. I’m not surprised that they’re making a sequel, but holy shit, how did they get Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo back? How does Isla Fisher have more good sense not to return than those heavy-hitters? Anyway, my criticism of the first movie still stands for Now You See Me 2: performance magic is its own special effect. Why bother enhancing it with CGI? Like, isn’t the point of magic that you’re watching people do what appears to be the impossible? At no point did I believe that Jesse Eisenberg was legitimately levitating raindrops. Come on!
Now You See Me 2 comes out June 10, 2016.
