New toys and a lotta noise

So this is interesting. I can’t say that I’m super enthusiastic about Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman, but I’m certainly curious. That said, something has happened in the marketing of both movies that I didn’t notice until I watched these two new TV spots for the films: I’ve inadvertently started thinking of them both as a single movie. This hasn’t happened to me with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has clear lines drawn between the individual superhero movies and their big crossover Avengers films. No, these new DC movie universe movies feel somehow cohesive. If you watch these ads back to back, you’d swear you were looking at an adaptation of one of the 10-hour Arkham video games, where every famous Batman hero and villain makes an appearance. So, uh, kudos to DC, I guess! They’ve actually set themselves apart from the Marvel movies, and I didn’t even notice it until just now. Now if only they hadn’t called it Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Suicide Squad comes out August 5, 2016. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out March 25, 2016.
