Doris Roberts, best known for playing the mother on Everybody Loves Raymond, recently passed away at the age of 90. Even though Roberts achieved her greatest fame late in her career, she was always a quintessential character actress who worked non-stop since the 1950s. I was actually quite surprised to turn up footage of one of her earliest bit parts on the CBS anthology series, Suspense. In this 1952 episode, Roberts played the role of “Woman” and you can see her as the woman in the black dress who pops up in the background for about five seconds in this clip.
