I wish I could get more excited about Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, and I feel like if it had come out ten years ago, I’d be way more into it. But at this point, a school for gifted children feels done to death (X-Men: Apocalypse being mediocre clinched it), and the film looks so Tim Burton-y that it’s almost a parody of itself. But you know, for all my cynicism, this looks a lot better than most of Tim Burton’s output in recent years, so who knows? Maybe it’ll be a return to form and breathe new life into this kind of story the way that girl breathes air into a sunken ship.
Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children comes out September 30, 2016.
