Street Cents was a TV series that aired on CBC in Canada in the early 90’s. The show was focused on such teen-centric topics as how to save your money, shop smart, which deodorants worked best, and stuff like that. Well, being a Canadian himself, a very young Tom Green appeared on Street Cents with his rap group Organized Rhyme. And it looks like he took it very seriously.

Before They Were Stars: Lizzy Caplan in a Jason Mraz Music Video /blog/2016/06/09/before-they-were-stars-lizzy-caplan-in-a-jason-mraz-music-video/ Thu, 09 Jun 2016 14:00:58 +0000 /?p=54127 Continue reading ]]>

In this 2004 music video for Jason Mraz’s “You and I Both”, a single from his debut album, he plays a guy who develops an infatuation with a female teller at his bank. In an amusing series of events, Mraz tries to pass the woman a note, but in a wacky misunderstanding, he winds up getting arrested for attempted bank robbery. Anyway, you might recognize the teller as a then-unknown Lizzy Caplan.

Get ready for me to show my age: I had no idea what vaporwave music was until I discovered Simpsonwave. For those of you like me, who aren’t hip or in the know, vaporwave is a subgenre of EDM which uses a lot of smooth jazz samples and pitch-shifts them to make vaguely retro-sounding tracks. And from that subgenre, Simpsonwave was born – clips from The Simpsons given the vaporwave treatment into electronic chill tracks. I think. I’m still not totally sure I understand this stuff. But damn if it isn’t awesome. Or maybe it’s all a big joke. Either way, look for more Simpsonwave tracks under the cut.

I may not listen to rap or hip hop on a regular basis, but I have a great appreciation for it. Good lyrics and flow are impressive as all hell, and if you have that same appreciation, then you’ll enjoy this video essay from Vox about the best rap artists in music history. Hmm…let me open up iTunes and see what I can put on.
