Before They Were Stars (2-for-1 Special): David Spade and Tony Hawk in “Police Academy 4”

I’m sure this seems like a very random and unlikely pair of celebrities to be sharing a “Before They Were Stars” moment, but it happened. This occurred when an unknown David Spade made his film debut in Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol as a teenage skateboarder. 19-year old Tony Hawk was initally hired to be Spade’s skateboarding double, but soon lost the job because he was too tall. However, Hawk still made it into the finished film as an extra during this wonderfully eighties skateboarding montage. I’ve read conflicting reports about which one he is, but I believe he’s the guy in the red shirt and yellow camoflauge shorts. Since Police Academy 4 was filmed in Toronto, you may also recognizable a minor, but very infamous Canadian celebrity in this clip. Playing the role of Sgt. Copeland’s partner during the mall scene is none other than Ted Simonett, a.k.a. the much-hated “Canadian Tire Guy”! David Spade, Tony Hawk, Canadian Tire Guy… where else but The Back Row are you going to see those three together?
