The First Trailer For The Thing Prequel Mutates Into View

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.

There are all kinds of confusing things about the prequel to John Carpenter’s awesome 80’s sci-fi horror film The Thing, not the least of which is that the prequel is also titled The Thing. On top of that, while the plot description mentions that Mary-Elizabeth Winstead’s character joins a Norwegian scientific team in Antarctica, none of the people in this trailer seem particularly Norwegian to me. While I do kinda wish they had just left Carpenter’s The Thing alone, I’m not all that upset about this pre-boot film. I just hope it doesn’t suck and cause people to avoid the film that inspired it.

The Thing comes out October 14, 2011.
