Before They Were Stars (2-for-1 Special): Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer on “The Weird Al Show”

Okay, this coincidence here just blows my mind! For the past week-and-a-half, I’ve been doing “Before They Were Stars” features on this year’s Oscar nominees, including Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer. Well, it turns out that back in 1997, the two of them made an appearance together in the exact same segment on the same TV show! The Weird Al Show was short-lived Saturday morning TV series hosted by the one and only Weird Al Yankovic and in this segment, Al answers videotaped questions sent in by his “fans”, two of whom are played by none other than Melissa McCarthy (who actually worked as the production coordinator on this show) and Octavia Spencer. By the way, is it just me or does the guy who asks the question at the 1:53 mark look and sound an awful lot like Tommy Wiseau?! “Oh, hi, Weird Al”.
